Indiana College Network
The Indiana College Network (ICN) is a collaborative service of Indiana’s
colleges and universities developed in 1994 to help meet lifelong learning needs
of Indiana citizens throughout the state. Operated by the Indiana Higher Education
Telecommunication System, ICN helps thousands of learners each year as a convenient starting-point for e-learning
from Indiana’s accredited colleges and universities.
ICN helps learners locate, enroll in, access, and succeed in distance learning to meet their educational goals by providing:
- A learner-centered Web site rich in resources
- An online catalog of thousands of high school, college (credit/noncredit), and continuing education classes
- Information about hundreds of degree and certificate programs available at a distance
- A network of learning centers for local support
- A toll-free hotline
- Convenient interinstitutional enrollment
For breadth, depth, and choice, few states equal the distance learning opportunities
available from Indiana’s accredited colleges and universities. Institutions
use the Internet,
web conferencing, video conferencing, audio conferencing, CD-ROMs/DVDs, videotape,
and print/mail in appropriate combinations to connect
learners with formal learning experiences. And although ICN is itself a student-facing
service, IHETS also fosters the work of faculty and administrative staff in
developing, delivering, and supporting distance learning as well as supporting
uses of technology for campus-based classes.
