IHETS Board of Directors

Overview

As part of an overall organizational review during the third and fourth quarters of 2005, the IHETS Board of Directors was restructured in April of 2006 to clearly redefine, facilitate, and strengthen active engagement by all board members. This restructuring was part of a final report and recommendations issued to the board on January 25, 2006.

The 13-member board includes representation by top administrators at IHETS member institutions and within state government. Specifically, these individuals, each of whom has voting rights, include:

Each member—with the exception of the president of the Independent Colleges of Indiana, state CIO, and state superintendent of public instruction, all of whom serve by office—will serve three-year, once-renewable terms.

Through service on the board, these individuals are responsible for IHETS stewardship, governance, and general oversight, including but not limited to: priority-setting and strategic planning, making decisions and developing policies for services, structure, and fiduciary matters, and commitment to advocacy on behalf of all consortium members. The board will review the progress reported by each of the IHETS Operating Committees—the Indiana Partnership for Statewide Education (IPSE) and the Technology Operations and Applications Committee.

Members of the board shall be elected by the IHETS Nominating Committee, which is composed of the immediate past board chair, one member CIO, one member provost, and one additional individual appointed by the current chair of the board. This committee is responsible for presenting to the board a slate of officer and committee nominees who will ensure energetic and progressive IHETS leadership.

The IHETS Advisory Council will include 15 members elected by the board.  Council membership will be composed of education and technology stakeholders who will report directly to the board. This group will provide input related to:

Also reporting directly to the board is the IHETS Executive Committee, which is composed of the board chair and the chairs of each IHETS operating committee. These individuals will determine how to move forward with and resolve policy and operational issues as well as complete other duties as directed by the board. The committee will provide the board with an annual governance report.
